India
is a heaven of freedom, ancient yet modern, wild yet beautiful,
diverse yet unified, chaotic yet disciplined. In this vast and culturally
diverse entity called India man and nature have worked together
over thousands of years to create one of the world's richest civilizational
heritage. From the snow-capped Himalayas to rich wildlife reserves,
from ancient monuments to high-tech cities, from spiritual havens
to balmy beaches, from arid deserts to breathtaking rapids and waterfalls,
there is barely an aspect of nature and civilization India has not
been touched by.
Although
the legendary Indian chaos can daze the first-time traveler, India
promises not to disappoint, any time of the year. If the summer
months offer great mountain holidays, the cold winter opens up greater
travel avenues, starting from the plains of north India, where the
traveler has a wide variety of destinations to pick from -- historical
sites like the Taj Mahal and the Qutab Minar, the regal deserts
and palaces of Rajasthan or some great wildlife spotting in Madhya
Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Winter is also a great time to travel
from west to south up east to savour India's beaches, hugged as
the subcontinent is by three marine bodies, the Arabian Sea, the
Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. This part also offers some awesome
and unspoilt coral reef islands.
Known
to have kept back many a casual traveler for a lifetime, India pampers
its guests to unimaginable limits. Here hospitality is a way of
life, alive in the heart of every Indian. And, India cannot be stereotyped
Just when you think you've got the pulse of this great Asian country,
you have a surprise come your way.
As
weather plays a key role in defining the comfort level of traveling
in India, you are best advised to match your destination with the
time you choose to travel. For instance, the best time for the north
is the cooler period from November to mid-February. The monsoon
months between June and August are good for southern parts like
Kerala which turn lush and green in this season. The summer months
between April and June are best reserved for the hills.
